Joelle Rocks!

I took Will and Mina last night to see Joelle in her new play, “Schoolhouse Rock.”  I remember seeing the clips of SHR as a child.  It was squeezed between cartoon shows, and I’d sing along to, “I’m Just a Bill” or, my personal favorite, “Conjunction Junction.”  Good memories.  Anyway, Joelle has been practicing for this show for awhile, and I was really looking forward to seeing it.  It didn’t disappoint!

This is Joelle’s fourth show now – having had a part in The King and I at the Ogunquit Playhouse and then Honk! and Treasure Island both at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre (where SHR is also running until next Sunday…shameless plug!).  At each show I feel this tightening in my throat for Joelle – it’s this feeling that comes over me of sheer love and a proud feeling of being her (wicked) step-mother.  

I’ve been in Joelle’s life since she was a toddler, and it has been fun watching her evolve into a young lady.   From the first day of Kindergarten to now  ... sixth grade and school dances.  Yikes!  Where did the time go? 

So as I go about my day today singing songs stuck in my head like, “Interplanet Janet” (could be my new favorite) or “Conjunction Junction”, I think of Joelle – and how proud I am to be her step mom.

You have so much to be proud of! I can't wait to see Joelle in SHR (though I did get a sneak peek from the back of my minivan one day!). I, too, have enjoyed watching her in all of her shows!! I love the wink or the smile she gives you once she spots you on stage! She is a special girl!

I love watching all the kids in their chosen hobbies! Mina and Amelle were great fun to watch in gymnastics and Avery and Mina in Basketball, and Will in soccer, and Beckett nursing. They are all so special and so wonderful!

The girls are so blessed to have you as their (wicked) step mom. You have been in their lives from the beginning, in fact, I'm sure they can't remember a time when you weren't their step mom! You have taken a huge role in their lives Wendy, I know that they love you and adore you as much as you love and adore them!

Yeah, I was joking about the nursing, but it is awesome that you chose to nurse Beckett. It’s a selfless act, and not always easy (trust me, I know x3).

You don’t give yourself enough credit, girl! All of your children are so lucky to have you as their mother/stepmother. You are an extraordinary woman. I mean, you gave birth to your kids without any medication, need I say more? I have always admired the way you and Shaun parent, I know it’s not always easy, but you guys have the most cohesive family unit I know of. It’s truly incredible! Joelle and Mina are obviously old enough to recognize what an incredible person you are, the boys will figure it out as they grow (though I do suspect Will knows – I saw him pressed up against the glass like a curmudgeon as we drove off on Saturday night).

So….here’s to Joelle in School House Rocks and also to Wendy in the Casey Family Rocks!

PS, you’re wicked alright, wicked awesome!

This was one of may favorite shows Joelle has done. She gets better every time!

Joelle was awesome. Wendy is awesome. My whole family is awesome. Well, maybe Wendy is kind of awesome!
