Dirt saves the day

Apparently some scouts were at our Basketball game last night watching Jermaine and me play hoop.  Scouts have been know to frequent mens leagues for that perfect overweight, balding diamond in the rough.  I have obtained the actual footage from the scouts of Jermaines AMAZING game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer (the camera makes us all look a bit thinner..and whiter)... by the way the person you hear yelling was me-from the bench...  I do deserve some of the credit, with about a minute to go I looked and noticed we were down by 3, I also knew  that Jermaine was on the bench and he was one of our best 3 point shooters so I took myself out of the game in favor of Jermaine.  In today's world of me me me sports it really was an amazingly selfless move if I do say so myself.   My gamble paid off as Jermaine hit the game winner as I cheered on.

I was going through some photo albums looking for pictures of Shaun and I as a baby.  I came across his baby album and among the baby teeth, lock of hair and school projects I found this treasure of a thank-you card:

Dear Mrs. Casey,

Thank you so much for being so thoughtful.  I love musk!  I shall miss Shaun very much.  He has everything going for him - talent, looks, personality and a nice, mannered boy.  Keep being concerned about him - he has lot to offer a class.

This is one of my favorite commercials of all time.  It's been tough watching the Celts for the past 20 years.  This commercial captures what it felt like when Celtics fans learned the Celts traded for Kevin Garnett.  The trade put the Celts back on the map.

Friday Random Thoughts

Random purge of my brain:

-I am not to ashamed to admit that I watch American Idol.  One of my favorite parts of the show is when they eliminate someone and they show the girls crying like someone died-Maybe I am cruel but it makes me laugh. SORRY

-I ran into Erin last night at Loco's Coco's Tacos. It was odd and cool all at the same time.  It was probably 1994 since I last bumped into my sister at a random location unexpectedly.  We were both picking up the same food none the less.  A Beef Burrito. I never had one before but earlier in the week Erin said that Jermaine puts the local burrito on a level playing field with his beloved Philly Cheese steak.  With that kind of endorsement I had to try one.  The burrito was great and so was seeing Erin-Glad your around E!

-I watch A LOT of sports... A LOT. After watching last nights debate I have decided that a debate is one of the purest forms of competition.  In most sporting events you can recover from a mistake, even a HUGE mistake.  Not in a debate, one slip of the tongue and you are cooked, finito, kaput. Unrecoverable. Performing without a coach, team or or a timeout.  Intense!

Casey in Camp

Sean Casey arrived in Ft Myers yesterday but he does not appear ready to play the outfield.  Casey can play first base, of course. But the outfield? That's probably not a good idea. "You might have to bring the three-ring circus out there if you throw me in the outfield, but I can try," said Casey, who has played only first in the major leagues. "I've shagged some baseballs in [batting practice]; that's pretty much my extent in the outfield. In an emergency situation, I can go out there. Emergency. I'M ALIVE!!

It's amazing how good a shower can make you feel! 

Yes, I've taken showers since Beckett has come home, but for some reason today's shower felt especially good.  It is probably due to the fact that I was able to get some much needed sleep last night.  Wendy without sleep is not a good combination.  Shaun watched Beckett for about three hours while I slept, and I remember crawling into bed and saying, "I love you bed" and then giggling to myself. 

I may be sleep deprived, but at least I smell good!

Uncle Eric and Auntie Jill

The kids couldn't ask for better Uncles  and Aunts than our kids have.  Everyone who reads this knows Erin and Jermaine and how great they are so I figured I would say a  few words about the other Uncle and Aunt of the K-Sea kids.  Eric and Jill are great people and are GREAT with kids.  The kids love it when they come over.  Will has a special bond with Uncle Eric who for not having kids knows exactly how to relate to kids, Will can't wait to see them when we tell them they are coming over.   I am thankful that they are family.

So every all star game each player is given one of their home jerseys to autograph for a charity auction for the MLBPA.

Each year you autograph that jersey and afterwards they collect them and auction them off.

The year in question, Sean gets his jersey, and somehow he is out a jersey or two and ends up autographing the only jersey he has left.

Now he realizes that not only does he not have the jersey for the auction, but he’s autographed the jersey he has to play the all star game in…..

He tells the story and it generates a huge laugh, and I then comment that since he autographed it, he should take a black sharpee into the field with him when he plays, and have each player that gets to first base autograph his shirt as well.

He actually TOOK the black sharpee in his pocket, onto the field with him. I am not sure who he told, but I know he told more than one player about it, and it was hilarious to watch guys at first base start cracking up as he told them the story.

So in the end he got the better of everyone because he had players autographing his jersey while they were standing on first base.

Good stuff and again, this guy is one in a million. Nicest guy you’d ever want to meet and a hell of a player. He’ll be a great addition on and off the field here.

It is a letter that I sent to the paper about Wendy.  It was printed in the letters to the editor section.  Here is a copy of the letter:

To the Editor:

I have to tell this story because I am so proud of my wife. She started labor at about 1 a.m. Sunday. She was having pretty steady contractions by 9 am. We wanted to stay at home as long as we could.

We both are pretty passionate about voting and yesterday was the Maine Democratic presidential caucus, we had been looking forward to it for several weeks. I joked with Wendy around 1 that we had to vote, her response was "yes we do". So we went to the local school to cast our vote. We had never been to a "caucus" before and we didn't realize it was a meeting followed by a vote. We waited in line for about 30 minutes to register (she had three contractions while in line)!

At that point we realized the baby could come anytime and that maybe sitting through the whole hour meeting would not be good idea. We spoke to some of the election officials and told them our story. We really wanted to vote but sitting for an hour wasn't going to work. We couldn't wait for his response so we had to leave. We went home a little disappointed that we couldn't vote but we felt good that we did all we could (our forefathers would have been proud). At about 4 p.m. we decided it was time to go to the hospital, on our way out the door the phone rang, it was someone from the caucus. They did some research and due to our circumstances they could allow our vote over the phone. So as we headed out the door we cast our vote. Three hours later Wendy gave birth.

Our baby was born at York Hospital.

Seeing Red

What a beautiful site...Look at all that red.  A lot of snow for a relatively warm and rainy winter.  There is even a few pockets of purple not that far away. 

Sports and Politicians

Why is it that people worship athletes and fawn over celebrities?  I am the biggest sports fan there is but treating these athletes as anything other than people who are very good at what they do is foreign to me.  If  Tom Brady was signing autographs at my neighbors house it's not a lock that I would go and if I did go I wouldn't call him "Mr. Brady" or tell him he was a "hero" or a "titan".  If I ran into him I would talk to him just like I would talk to anyone else.  As for asking for a autograph, what good is an autograph? Am I going to take it to work so I can hang it on my wall or maybe hang it from the rear view mirror next to the fuzzy dice?  What I saw happen yesterday in congress blew me away.  What I have realized is that we have elected people to run the country who are no better than a 10 year old girl at a Hannah Montana concert (sorry Joelle-It's normal behavior for a 10 year old girl! :-) ).  Listen to what a few of these clowns in congress said to Roger Clemens yesterday:
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., told Clemens. "I hate to say that. You're one of my heroes" (What?  Roger Clemens is one of your hero's?)

Representative Dan Burton, Republican of Indiana, was buffoon of the day (did you notice the Lone Star cuff links?), bashing the media, reminding us that Roger is a "titan" in baseball, and invoking the old Ray Donovan question - "Where do I get my reputation back?" Burton was shocked, shocked, that McNamee lied to reporters when asked about steroids back in the pre-Mitchell days.

There was plenty more jock-sniffing. Representative Danny K. Davis, Democrat of Illinois, told Roger, "It was a pleasure meeting you last week." Representative William Lacy Clay, Democrat of Missouri, asked Roger what uniform he plans to wear into the Hall of Fame. Representative Virginia Foxx, Republican of North Carolina, produced four photographs of Clemens, a progression dating to his Red Sox days, and insisted, "You appear to be the same size."

Don't even get me going on Arlen Specter of PA who I actually heard on WEEI say that he was pushing the SPYGATE issue because his team (Eagles) lost to the PATS. Talk about abusing power....Mr. Specter why don't you please do something about the 3 bucks for a gallon of gas I am paying.

If someone can enlighten me as to why I should follow the lead of the folks in Congress and devote a portion of my life to worshiping athletes and celebrities please feel free to help me out.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

Wow!  Well it's over, and Beckett and I are now home.  It's been quite a ride to say the least.  Shaun did a great job keeping everyone updated as to the events leading up to Beckett's arrival (that's what I get for marrying a gadget guy).  Reflecting back on the day of Beckett's birth, it seems like it took forever and yet when we got to the hospital he was in my arms in an instant.  I was so honored to have Erin there to share the experience.  I'm sure she felt helpless at times, but her presence was comforting.  She did an awesome job manning the fan for me.  I couldn't have asked for a better fan partner.  And Shaun........he was awesome - a tower of strength for me to hold on to (figuratively and literally speaking).

So now it's time to get caught on sleep (yeah right) and get us all into a routine.  I have an amazing family - a super husband, great son and beautiful step-daughters.  And now Beckett.

Life is Good!
